Training of Master Trainers in Wind Turbine Operation and Maintenance
Training of Master Trainers in Wind Turbine Operation and Maintenance
Khanh Hoa – Binh Thuan, July 27, 2025 – As part of the cooperation framework between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Ho Chi Minh City Branch (VCCI-HCM) and the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), aimed at strengthening Vietnam’s renewable energy workforce, VCCI-HCM, in collaboration with the Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI), successfully organized a training course for VCMI’s master trainers in wind turbine operation and maintenance.
The course was conducted from July 25 to 27, 2025, at Khanh Hoa College of Technology and Energy (KTEC) and Phu Lac 1 Wind Farm – Binh Thuan Province.

During the three-day training, VCMI instructors had the opportunity to directly study and experience real working conditions involved in the operation and maintenance of wind turbines.
Through a comprehensive training program that combined simulation and on-site practice, the instructors strengthened their knowledge and developed essential hands-on skills in the field of wind turbine operation and maintenance, including:
-
Mastering safety skills for working at height:
At KTEC, the instructors practiced on a simulated tower, developing essential occupational safety skills, becoming proficient in using harnesses and safety equipment, and familiarizing themselves with working postures at height and emergency evacuation procedures—an important preparation step before accessing actual turbines.

Simulated operation:
The instructors gained deeper insights into the structure and operating principles of wind turbines through the Nacelle – Wind Turbine Learning System at KTEC, enabling them to practice various simulated scenarios within a controlled training environment.

Hands-on maintenance practice:
During the course, VCMI instructors received detailed guidance from experts on the specialized tools, equipment, and materials required for wind turbine maintenance.

Real-world application at a height of 90 meters:
At the Phong Dien 1 Wind Farm in Binh Thuan, the instructors received direct guidance inside the nacelle at a height of 90 meters, where the turbine’s drivetrain, generator, and control systems are located.

Learning from experts:
Throughout the training course, VCMI instructors worked alongside the plant’s engineers and technicians, monitoring the operation process through the SCADA system and gaining valuable insights from experts on troubleshooting and on-site maintenance practices.

The training course not only helped instructors update their technical knowledge but also provided them with practical and in-depth experience regarding the working environment, requirements, and real-world challenges of the wind power industry.
These experiences serve as a crucial foundation for VCMI to continue developing and implementing a training program that aligns with industry needs and labor market demands, ensuring that graduates are fully equipped with the necessary skills for careers in this important sector.
