JICA Project on Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Vietnam

Vietnam and Japan are two nations with a long-standing relationship, sharing many similarities in history, culture, traditions, and humanitarian values. Over the past 45 years of diplomatic cooperation, Vietnam and Japan have become increasingly important partners in multiple fields. Since the two countries elevated their relations to an “Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia” in March 2014, Vietnam–Japan relations have witnessed strong, comprehensive, and substantive developments.

The project “Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Vietnam” implemented through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is one of the cooperative initiatives between the governments of Vietnam and Japan. The College of Mechanics and Irrigation (VCMI) is among the Vietnamese vocational education institutions selected by JICA for assessment and participation in this project.

Through the project, the College will receive investment and modern training equipment from the Government of Japan for the Electrical–Electronics and Mechanical Engineering programs. These facilities and technologies meet Japan’s advanced and internationally recognized standards. The project aims to improve the College’s training quality by upgrading equipment for the Mechanical and Electrical–Electronics trades, thereby supplying highly skilled human resources to Vietnam’s industrial sector.

The JICA-supported Project on Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Vietnam, benefiting Vietnamese educational institutions in general and the College of Mechanics and Irrigation in particular, will contribute to economic development and enhance Vietnam’s international competitiveness by increasing the number of highly skilled workers through the improvement of vocational training.

The JICA-supported Project on Strengthening Vocational Education and Training in Vietnam was approved in principle by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 1432/QĐ-TTg dated September 21, 2017.

The College is currently preparing the best possible conditions to receive the vocational training equipment and to send teachers to participate in the Training of Trainers (ToT) courses organized by the project, enabling them to update their knowledge of new technologies associated with the equipment provided.
