Australia–Vietnam Cooperation in Vocational Education and Training

Within the framework of the Australia–Vietnam Human Resource Development Program (Aus4Skills Program), on 14 December 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training – Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, in cooperation with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organized the Launching Ceremony of the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board.

The Board consists of representatives who are experts, managers, lecturers, and teachers with extensive experience in training and employing human resources in the logistics sector of both Australia and Vietnam.

 

Dr. Nguyễn Hồng Minh, Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, delivered remarks at the Launching Ceremony of the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board.

Attending the Launching Ceremony were Dr. Nguyễn Hồng Minh, Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training; Mr. Nguyễn Văn Lâm, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Trần Ngọc Liêm, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ms. Rachel Ingwersen, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam; Ms. Karen Lanyon, Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Graham Alliband, Director of the Aus4Skills Program, along with representatives from several Australian diplomatic bodies in Vietnam, the Vietnam Logistics Business Association, and various training institutions and enterprises from both Australia and Vietnam.

 

Ms. Karen Lanyon, Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City, delivered remarks at the Launching Ceremony of the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board.

Speaking at the Launching Ceremony, Ms. Karen Lanyon, Australian Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City, highly appreciated the proactive and effective cooperation between the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training and Australia in vocational education activities. She noted that Australia is one of the leading countries in developing a vocational education system with strong industry participation.

This model is essential not only for Australia but also for Vietnam as both countries enter the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It helps ensure improved training quality and meets the human resource development needs of key economic sectors now and in the future. Australia is ready to share its experience in developing vocational education with Vietnam.

The establishment of the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board is one of the collaborative activities between Australia and Vietnam in human resource development, aimed at promoting enterprise engagement in vocational education through the application of Australia’s experience while making necessary adjustments to suit Vietnam’s training context.

 

Overview of the Launching Ceremony of the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board

Nguyễn Hồng Minh, Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, expressed his high appreciation for the cooperation and support of the Australian Government toward Vietnam’s vocational education sector. He emphasized that strengthening the participation of enterprises and employers in vocational education is one of the key solutions in renewing and improving the quality of education in Vietnam.

    He stated that the successful pilot implementation of logistics training with enterprise participation, supported by the Australian Government, will serve as a strong model for scaling up to other disciplines in the future.

    The establishment of the Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board will help training institutions gain additional consultation and support from experts in implementing the pilot mechanism of enterprise–training collaboration in vocational education.

    Director General Nguyễn Hồng Minh also encouraged the institutions registered to participate in the logistics training pilot to be proactive and maintain close cooperation with the Aus4Skills Program and relevant organizations and individuals in order to identify training needs and prepare adequate conditions—including teachers, facilities, curricula, and teaching materials—so that enrollment and training in logistics under the enterprise-participation model can be implemented effectively as soon as possible.

The next activity of the Aus4Skills Program will be the first training course on competency-based curriculum development for managers and lecturers from logistics enterprises and training institutions in Ho Chi Minh City, taking place from 18 to 21 December 2017.

The course will focus on knowledge and skills related to developing competency-based training programs for five occupations: Warehouse Staff, Warehouse Supervisor, Logistics Officer, Freight Forwarder, and General Cargo Handler.

The Australia–Vietnam Human Resource Development Program is an initiative of the Australian Government aimed at supporting Vietnam in accessing and utilizing a skilled and qualified workforce that meets labor market needs, thereby contributing to Vietnam’s sustainable economic and social development.
