Green Partnership Breakthrough: The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Mekong Institute Visit the College of Machinery and Irrigation to Advance the Greening of TVET

On the afternoon of November 17, the College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) had the honor of welcoming a Working Delegation of 21 representatives from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Mekong Institute. The delegation included members from the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. The primary purpose of the visit was to exchange knowledge and learn from VCMI’s experience in implementing training programs that foster innovation in agricultural mechanization, digital transformation, and the development of high-quality human resources to support sustainable production.

The meeting was attended by VCMI leaders, including Mr. Nguyễn Văn Chương – Rector; Mr. Phạm Duy Đông – Vice Rector; Mr. Phạm Văn Hoài – Vice Rector; Ms. Lê Minh Nguyệt – Vice Rector; together with heads and deputy heads of departments, faculties, and centers.

The working session was productive and highly practical, centering on open dialogue and showcasing the outcomes of the High-Quality Green TVET Education and Training Center project. The delegation also visited various practice workshops supported by the Green TVET Center project, gaining firsthand insights into the college’s training infrastructure and green-oriented vocational education initiatives.

Mr. Bạch Hưng Trường, Component Leader representing the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), also delivered a presentation on Germany–Viet Nam development cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The core of the program was a discussion session focused on sharing experiences and project outcomes. Both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on implementing activities across key areas: agricultural mechanization, digital transformation, and green initiatives in education. Experts from IRRI and the Mekong Institute highly appreciated the College’s investment and commitment to integrating “Green” and “Digital Transformation” elements into its vocational training programs. The exchange of insights contributed significantly to refining VCMI’s training framework toward international standards.

The visit of IRRI and the Mekong Institute concluded successfully. The event opened up valuable opportunities for the College to learn from international best practices in developing an effective Green TVET model, while reaffirming VCMI’s position as a high-quality training hub serving the development of the Southeast region and the country as a whole.

The collaborative initiatives discussed during the visit will form a strong foundation for training a new generation of engineers and technicians capable of mastering advanced technologies—contributing significantly to Viet Nam’s goals for sustainable agricultural production and climate resilience.
