English Access Microscholarship Program
English Access Microscholarship Program
The English Access Microscholarship Program is a global exchange initiative funded by the U.S. Department of State and has been officially implemented in Vietnam since 2009. It is one of many scholarship and exchange programs of the U.S. Department of State, designed for disadvantaged students between the ages of 13 and 20. The program provides English language training through after-school classes and intensive summer sessions. It also offers students opportunities to learn about American values and culture, helping them better integrate into the socio-economic development of the country and increasing their chances of academic and career success. In addition, the program opens doors for students to participate in further U.S. exchange and scholarship opportunities.
In 2016, the College of Mechanics and Irrigation was selected as one of the exemplary vocational institutions in Vietnam to participate in the program. The College selected 27 students who met all required criteria. Through the program, students receive a foundation in general English, exposure to English for specific purposes, and opportunities to learn more about American culture. They are also equipped with various soft skills such as English presentation skills, computer skills, and take part in field trips, outdoor learning activities, and community service through the “Green Saturday” volunteer program.

Upon completing the course, the students will receive a Certificate of Completion issued by the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam. Notably, they will officially become members of the U.S. State Alumni community in Vietnam and worldwide. The English Access Microscholarship Program also provides students with valuable opportunities to access future U.S. scholarship programs or study-abroad pathways.
