2024 Green Transition Training Equips VCMI Faculty and Staff

On June 29 and 30, 2024, the College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI), in partnership with SDP Investment Consulting Co., Ltd., hosted a significant training conference on the “Green Transition.” The event brought together over 200 participants, including the college’s managers and teachers. Leading the training were distinguished speakers and top experts with extensive experience in energy, environment, and sustainable development: Dr. Le Hai Hung, Director of the Institute for Research and Application of Technology (IRAT) and former Dean of the Faculty of Energy Physics at Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Mr. Ton That Hac Minh, Asia Pacific Sustainability Director at Motul Group (France); and Mr. Tran Van Toan, Country Director for Vietnam at Kosher Climate India Private Limited.

In his opening address, Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Party Committee Secretary and Rector of VCMI, highlighted the content, significance, and importance of the conference. He emphasized that the knowledge gained would be a crucial foundation for practical application at VCMI moving forward.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Dung, Chairwoman of the Members’ Council and General Director of SDP Investment Consulting Co., Ltd., expressed gratitude for the trust and support from VCMI’s leadership. She noted the opportunity for SDP and the experts to share fundamental knowledge on Facility-level Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories, the Carbon Market, and Sustainable Business Practices (ESG) with the college’s faculty and staff

During the conference, Dr. Le Hai Hung delved into the fundamentals of energy, heat, thermal radiation, greenhouse gases, and the greenhouse effect. He also guided participants through practical GHG inventory exercises with specific examples.

The second day featured insights from Mr. Ton That Hac Minh on sustainable development practices within businesses, covering ESG basics, strategy development and integration, common ESG reporting frameworks, and implementation. Mr. Tran Van Toan shared perspectives on global Net Zero emission trends, Vietnam’s commitments and roadmap, carbon markets, and carbon credits.

The speakers captivated the audience with continuously updated knowledge and delivered their presentations with creativity and conviction. Lively and constructive discussions followed each session, actively involving participants and connecting the topics to the College’s specific context and their daily work.

Concluding the workshop, participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of issues related to greenhouse gases and carbon credits, beginning to outline necessary actions for VCMI in the near future.

Aligned with its goal of becoming a high-quality green TVET institution, the conference equipped VCMI’s faculty and staff with theoretical and practical knowledge on sustainability and the green transition. This knowledge is intended to be integrated into the College’s existing training programs, enabling VCMI to cultivate a workforce that meets employers’ expectations for high-quality green human resources.
